Bathroom Remodels Increase Home Values

There are a number of things you can do to improve your bathroom and raise the value of your home if, for example, you’re planning on putting it on the market. One thing you can add to a small bathroom to make it seem larger is a small corner vanity. These vanities are available in lots of great styles, and actually do a lot to maximize the space you have. They are very functional and offer everything that rectangular vanities offer.

The main attraction with a corner vanity is the compactness of its design. By exchanging your larger, existing vanity for a corner one, you will leave a lot more open floor space, and your room won’t seem quite as confined. These small vanities are ideal for half baths and tiny apartment bathrooms.

There are vanities available in many different styles and made of many different materials. You’ll find sleek, contemporary vanities as well as the standard wooden ones. Then there are the small corner cabinets that tuck into a little, unused corner. Before shopping for a vanity you need to choose the theme for your bathroom and then select your vanity to fit it.

Do you Want a Pedestal Sink or a Vanity Cabinet?

There are two types of corner bathroom vanities: cabinet base or pedestal. It’s totally up to you as to which you prefer. The vanities have cupboards in them which may be welcome storage for your small space. Pedestal sinks come in many lovely styles and most of them can be adapted for use in a corner; however, they don’t have the storage space a vanity has.

Measure the Size of the Space

You need to do a lot of measurement beforehand to make sure you choose a vanity that will fit into the space you have available. Not only do you need to measure the space, but you also need to check out where the plumbing is located. Take the measurements to the store where you plan on purchasing your vanity. Most of the sales personnel in home improvement stores will be able to help you choose the right size and style of vanity to fit your measurements.

Never be in too big of a hurry choosing items for your bathroom décor. You could end up with too many hassles if you hurry. You’ll find that corner bathroom vanities can be very stylish and with good planning will help you create a little extra elbow room in your small bathroom. Improving your bathroom will definitely raise the value of your home.

Pulling Off a Bathroom Makeover

Filed under: Bathroom Renovation — Tags: — Christopher @ 10:31 pm

You want your bathroom to be functional, but since it’s inside your home, it should really be more than that. A lot of people prefer a large room where they can escape to and relax and soak in a hot in a tub full of bubbles. Add some great-smelling, flickering candlelight, and the scene’s just about perfect. What a great way to end a long, hard day!

Nothing is worse in any bathroom than a bunch of clutter. Not only does my bathroom need to be large, I like it to be neat as well. How about sunken tub, or a shower unit with a skylight above to make you feel almost as if you’re showering outside in a soft, warm rain. Color is also critical in a smaller room, like a bath. Personally I think neutral colors are ideal. Since I don’t do mornings well, I don’t want the glare from the walls jolting me awake. My thoughts run to dark green accented by subtle lemon yellow and terracotta.

I like my room to be contemporary and modern. None of the nostalgic Victorian frills for me, although a few plants would be nice. We’re in the 21st century now, and all the hokey, passé stuff from the 20th century needs to pass on into oblivion. Anything that has to do with fish, boats, and seashells is completely off limits. If you want that stuff, go to the beach! I’m also okay with brass faucets and showerheads as long as they aren’t too fancy, but brushed nickel are really nice.

My bathroom also needs to be very easy to clean. No clutter to clean around, no rugs, and no fancy window treatments. As you can tell, I like everything to be shipshape. The walls have to be tiled for easy maintenance, and I might fill one complete wall with mirrors. No, I’m not going to sit around admiring myself. Mirrors can do a lot to make any space seem larger. Although everyone else may be stenciling these days, I pass. That’s just not my idea of a clean bathroom design.

If you watch some of the home makeover shows on T.V., you can get a lot of great ideas. However, watch out, because some of the stuff they tell you to do is totally out of the ballpark. The other day I saw a show about a trendy young couple who had designed their entire place themselves. The apartment was very modern and tasteful, but the bathroom was just plain weird. The apartment was designed totally without walls, so their two-person bathtub was out in the open where all could see.

It gets even stranger than that. The toilet did have a wall in front of it, but the wall was very thin, see-through glass. That’s because the husband wanted to be able to continue to have conversations with his wife while she was otherwise occupied. To each his own, I guess.
